What is a Certified Translation?
A certified translation is a correct and complete translation of the original document, attested, stamped and signed by an official translator who is authorised to provide this service. LingoDan provides certified translation accepted by all authorities in Denmark.
If you intend to submit your certified translation to authorities abroad, we will assist you with the legalisation process. Therefore, our certified translation service includes finalising notarisation, stamp from Danish Chamber of Commerce, authentication and issue of apostille by the Danish Foreign Ministry, and legalisation of the translation from the consulate or embassy of the country in which the translation will be used.
On the other hand, a notarised translation is the translation that has been authenticated and stamped by the Notary Public. This means that the official translator or representative of the official translation company has appeared in person and signed the translation as well as the translation certification in front of the Notary Public.
What is the difference between a Certified Translation and a Notarised Translation?
Many people mistakenly believe that a certified translation and notarised translation are the same. However, the fact is that there is a huge difference between notarised and certified translation, both in terms of use and cost.
As far as the translation form is concerned, a certified translation describes a piece of translation that bears a declaration by the translator or the duly registered translation company, confirming completeness and accuracy of the translation.
Certified Translation in Denmark
Certified translation in Denmark is accepted locally by all official authorities, provided that the translation is certified either by a state-authorised translator (registered with the Danish Police) or a translation company registered to offer this service in Denmark.
The purpose of the certification process is to show the authorities that the translation has been made by a qualified translator and that the translation is a complete and accurate rendition of the original document.
Looking for a certified translation to equate your education certificates as per the requirements of the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science? We would be so pleased to assist you with the translation of your certificates and academic papers.
How my Certified Translation will look like?
Upon completion of the translation, we will issue a statement certifying that the translation is accurate and complete as per the original document. We further have the translation signed and stamped as per the Danish Law. A copy of the source document is also stamped and attached to the translation.
What a Certified Translation is Used for?
There are many cases where you would need to have a certified translation of your document(s). Expats living in Denmark typically need to submit certified translations of documents issued in their home countries. This way, you show the Danish authorities that the translation has been made by a qualified translator registered in Denmark to provide this service.
LingoDan provides a certified translation of all types of documents in over 20 sectors, including legal, financial, commercial, technical and medical translation sectors.
Below are few examples of the documents that typically need a certified translation when submitted to the Danish authorities:
- Driver license
- Education certificate
- Birth certificate
- Official documents
- Court orders
- Title deeds
- Powers of Attorney
- Contracts & agreements
- Death Certificates
- Marriage Certificates
- Bank Statements
- Tax Reports
Certified Translation of Visa Application Documents
Do you consider applying to a visa at one of the embassies in Denmark? In this case, you would typically be required by the embassy to submit a certified translation of your documents either into English or into the language of the target Country. LingoDan provides a certified translation service accepted by all embassies in Denmark.
Do I need Certified Translation or Notarised Translation?
The way the translation of your documents is authenticated depends on the requirements of the authority requesting it. If your document is issued in Denmark and you intend to use it abroad, then it is most likely that you would need a notarised translation.
In fact, it is a requirement from the Danish Foreign Ministry that all translations bear the notary public’s stamp or the stamp of the Danish Chamber of Commerce, in order to be legalised (Apostille-authenticated).
The purpose of the notarisation is to verify that the translation has been made by a certified translation company or a state-authorised translator.
Not sure about the type of translation you need?
Our consultants will check your document and give you a FREE advice on the correct authentication process for your specific need.
We offer a certified translation service to dozens of customers daily, and we always seek to spare our customers any unnecessary expenses and procedures. Our certified and notarised translation process is consistent with the requirements of the Danish Foreign Ministry.
How the notarised translation is done?
Upon completion of the certified translation, as described above, our representative appears in person before the Notary Public or the Danish Chamber of Commerce and attests to the authenticity of the translation.
The next step would be to submit the notarised document to the Danish Foreign Ministry. The Ministry then authenticates the stamp and signature of the Notary Public.
In certain cases, you may need to have the stamp of the Danish Foreign Ministry authenticated by the embassy of the country in which the document will be used. In other cases, you can have the authentication made directly from the relevant embassy, with no need for the legalisation from the Foreign Ministry.
